The Benefits Of Sound Therapy
Sound, energy, vibrations, they’re all around us, all the time.
Sound is used daily in medicine for ear tests, scans like ultrasound, stethocopes, doppler tests for blood flow, and many other formats. In ancient medicine and other traditional medicines, tuning forks are used to restore the body to balance, and it was a popular in ancient Greece for improving the mind. Music and Sound is used frequently through life to boost morale. If you’re not sure what you think about it simply think about those songs you listen to that make you feel upset, energetic, and positive. Then think about the ones that you dislike, make you feel angry, sad or upset. The sounds played will be impacting your bodies natural energy and vibrations.
Weak or unhealthy vibrations, known as dissonance, will upset the energy flow of the body which can then lead to health issues for our mental, but also physical health. Noise disturbances have been linked to chronic health, as have negative vibrations from geographic stress, which upset the natural vibrations of the earth. This stress can then upset, and distort the natural vibrations of your body and throw it out of balance.
Using the right pitch and frequencies we can then restore the bodies energy back to balance, also known at resonance, which will in turn help to optimise your health. In scientific studies, Peter Davey, a 92 year old saxophonist created a device that uses sound waves of the correct pitch and frequency to boil water.
In 1962 Dr T. C. Singh used music to enhance the growth of plants finding Indian and classical music enhanced height by 20% and biomass by 72%. Rock and heavy metal music has been shown in studies to impact growth negatively or not respond much at all.
This shows us how sounds, vibrations and positive energy are beneficial if they’re producing the right frequencies. You’ll usually find sound therapy methods use sound baths and gongs, but in my practice I use tuning forks which are more clinical at getting the right pitch and frequency needed to support the whole body in one session, rather than multiple sound sessions that can cost more, and take more time.
The benefits of sound and uses are:
